Tanzanian Shiites in Dar es Salaam, in addition to holding mourning ceremonies for Imam Hossain (AS) and speeches in mosques, also have programs at their homes and places of business during Muharram.
Rizvan Dala, one of the Shiites of Dar es Salaam in the Upanga neighborhood, said that there are many schools in this neighborhood and they run various programs for elementary school students during Muharram.
This Tanzanian Shia citizen added that he has covered the wall of his house with black cloths and in the morning he gives tea, milk, and bread to the primary school students and books about Imam Hussain (AS) and his uprising against oppressors on Ashura.
Ali Reza, another Shia citizen living in Dar es Salaam and a restaurant owner, also said that he has been distributing food to the needy people every day from the 6th to the 10th of Muharram for several years, and through other programs, he introduces the character and uprising of Imam Hussain (AS) to the people of Tanzania.
