Swedish envoy meets with Iranian FM adviser

Tehran (IP) - Sweden's special envoy for Yemen Peter Semneby met with the Senior Adviser to Iran's Foreign Minister on Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji.

Iran Press/Iran News: In the meeting held on Monday, the latest developments around Yemen were discussed.

The two sides also discussed the areas of cooperation between Iran and Sweden to help resolve the Yemen crisis and ways to end the humanitarian catastrophe in the country as soon as possible.

Regional consultations of the Swedish special envoy for Yemen, Iranian efforts to lift the blockade on the Yemeni people, ceasefire and peace process, and elimination of the risk of oil spills from the safer tanker were discussed in the meeting.

The FSO SAFER is one of the world's largest tankers and is anchored 60 km north of the port of Hodeidah, a key lifeline for aid supplies to much of Yemen's population.

With the support of the United States, the UAE, and several other countries, Saudi Arabia has launched a military invasion of Yemen since March 2015.

The Saudi Arabia aggression in Yemen has so far killed more than 16,000 Yemenis, injured tens of thousands, and displaced millions of the Yemeni people.

The Saudi military aggression has also left the poor country of Yemen severely short of food and medicine.
