Tehran (IP) - Iran's foreign ministry summoned the South Korean Ambassador to Tehran, Yun Kang-Hyeon in reaction to Yoon Suk Yeol president's interventionist remarks in the UAE.

Iran PressIran news: During the meeting, the deputy Iranian foreign minister for legal and international affairs Reza Najafi, explained the friendly relations with most of the counties in the Persian Gulf region and termed the remarks by the South Korean president as meddling in these friendly relations with the aim of undermining peace and stability in that region

The Iranian foreign ministry official called for immediate clarification from the Korean authorities regarding those remarks and emphasized the need for immediate correction of Seoul's approach to [its relations with Iran].

Najafi emphasized that Korea's lack of effective action to resolve problems in bilateral relations will force the Iranian side to revise its bilateral relations with Seoul.

The Iranian diplomat also considered the recent remarks by the Korean President regarding the possibility of building nuclear weapons by Iran to be in contradiction with the text of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and demanded an explanation from the Korean side in that regard as well.

The Korean ambassador tried to clarify his president's remarks and emphasized that such comments have nothing to do with the relations between Iran and the UAE or Korea.

He also said that he will convey Iran's viewpoints and expectations to his respective government.

Earlier, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had condemned these statements. The spokesman, on Tuesday, strongly denounced the South Korean president's remarks on Iran's ties with the UAE, saying they are "invalid," and the ministry expects an explanation from Seoul.

As for Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani, he said that Tehran is following up on Yoon Suk Yeol's "interventionist" remarks.

The Seoul foreign ministry sent a text message to reporters, in which it urged against "unnecessary overinterpretation" and explained that the remark was made while encouraging South Korean soldiers and was "irrelevant" to South Korea's diplomatic ties with Iran or other countries.
