CapeTown(IP): Pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered at the entrance of the highest court in CapeTown, South Africa as the country prepares to handovera detailed dossier to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to demonstratethat Israel is pursuing a policy of genocide in Gaza.

Iran Press/Africa:  On monday The demonstrationincluded top legal minds, including representatives from the Cape Bar Association and the National Association of Democratic Lawyers(Nadel).

South Africaapproached the ICJ in the Hague, the Netherlands in December 2023 accusing Israel of contravening the Conventionon the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG),also known as the GenocideConvention.

On January 26, 2024,the court accepted that there was a plausible case to be pursued and that it had jurisdictionto proceed with the matter.

The court provisionally ordered that Israel should to take measures to preventacts of genocide in the Gaza Strip, prevent and punish incitement to genocide and allow humanitarian aid into the besieged strip.

Since the initialruling the death toll in Gaza has continued to escalate, with almost 43 000 people killed by the Israeli aggression thus far.

South Africa’s Presidency, in a state said it would pursue thecase until the ICJ makes a finding. It says the filing of the memorial of evidence to the world courtwill “provide facts and evidence to prove that Israel is committing the crime of genocide in Palestine”.A number of countries have joined South Africa in its case againstthe Zionist regime.
