Why it matters:
The attack underscores the widening scope of the regional confrontation, as Yemen aligns itself militarily with Palestinians and retaliates against Israel's aggression and U.S.-backed operations.
What he's saying:
Yahya Saree, spokesman of Yemen's Armed Forces, said in a statement that the "Magic Seas" ship, linked to a company violating the ban on entry into occupied Palestinian ports was directly hit by missiles and is now sinking:
“This is part of our response to support the oppressed Palestinian people and to enforce the naval blockade on Israeli vessels in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea.”
He confirmed the use of two unmanned surface vessels, five ballistic and cruise missiles, and three attack drones in the complex operation.Yemen has allowed the crew to evacuate safely, Saree said.
“Any ship connected to the Zionist regime, anywhere in our range, is a legitimate target.”
General Saree also said: “Using 11 ballistic missiles and drones, we targeted Ben Gurion Airport with our supersonic ‘Palestine-2’ missile, as well as the Ashdod port and a power station in Asqalan.”
