British Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that if the intolerable situation in the Gaza Strip continues, the UK government will take further measures against Israel.

Why it matters:

The situation in Gaza and the distribution of aid there have been very complicated in recent weeks, and countries fear that Israel's policies in the region will widen the humanitarian disaster.

What he's saying:

The Foreign Secretary emphasized, "We must achieve a ceasefire in Gaza within the coming weeks," adding, "We want a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, not just a 60-day pause."

He described the new aid distribution plan for Gaza as "completely unacceptable," noting that people are dying while waiting for humanitarian assistance.

Lammy believes that "if the aid delivery problem in Gaza is to be solved, the UN and its agencies must play a central role."

He also condemned Israel's settlement expansion as "a violation of international law."
