Tehran (IP) - Iran’s President sent separate messages to heads of state of Islamic countries, congratulating them on Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Iran PressIran News: In a message on Saturday, Ebrahim Raisi expressed hope that the religious occasion helps enhance the unity among Muslim nations.

Raisi said that Eid al-Adha is the manifestation of obedience to God as the occasion is a remembrance of the Prophet Abraham’s obedience to Allah Almighty to sacrifice his son.

Millions of Muslims across the globe are celebrating Eid al-Adha, one of the biggest holidays in the Islamic calendar. Known as the "Feast of Sacrifice," the revered observance coincides with the final rites of the annual Hajj.

Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ebrahim's willingness to sacrifice Ismail as obedience to God. 

The event is celebrated on two different days, depending on lunar sightings.

This year, Eid al-Adha is celebrated on Saturday and Sunday.

Iran marks the event on Sunday.
