Kazan (IP) – BRICS has emerged as a successful model of international cooperation, providing a platform for countries to challenge global unilateralism, according to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Iran Press/Europe: Speaking at the BRICS Plus summit, held just a day after the main BRICS leaders' meeting, Pezeshkian highlighted the coalition's achievements in fostering collective decision-making and advancing multilateralism.

"BRICS has become a successful model of cooperation among nations on the international stage, thanks to its high-reaching goals," Pezeshkian stated at the joint meeting of the leaders and senior officials of the nine BRICS members and 27 partner countries.

The president expressed hope that this space for dialogue and exchange of ideas would help pave the way for a more just global order, driven by collective consensus. "Many nations desire coalition-building and friendly relations as a means to break free from the dominance of unilateralism," he added.

Pezeshkian emphasized that the foundations of the unipolar world order have grown increasingly unstable, and many international institutions, including the United Nations Security Council and the International Monetary Fund, have lost their effectiveness due to Western influence.

Addressing broader global issues, Pezeshkian outlined his vision for a better world—one free of sanctions, war, aggression, imperialism, and genocide. He called for multilateralism to replace unilateralism, and for equality to prevail over discrimination, transparency over deception, and dialogue over conflict.

"The past year has been marked by significant global events, and the elements of peace and security, particularly in West Asia, have faced serious threats," Pezeshkian remarked.

He also condemned Israel's genocidal campaign in Gaza and Lebanon, stating that the Israeli regime is creating a new wave of violence and fear by disregarding international norms and crossing red lines. "This has added yet another chapter to the regime's history of atrocities," Pezeshkian stated.

President Pezeshkian arrived in Kazan, Russia, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the 16th BRICS summit. He was seen off by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and Hojjatoleslam Mohsen Qomi, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution's international affairs advisor.

The 16th BRICS summit was held from October 23-25 in Kazan, where Pezeshkian participated and delivered a keynote speech as one of the BRICS leaders.
