According to the head of the Health and Work Environment Center of Iran's Ministry of Health, 8 million people in the world die every year due to smoking, and 1.2 of them die due to exposure to cigarette smoke.

Iran PressIran News: World No Tobacco Day, is the title of a day that coincides with May 31st every year, in order to attract attention and encourage people to quit smoking products, calling for the implementation of non-use of these products for a period of 24 hours. 

The press conference of Jafar Jandaghi, the head of the health and working environment center of the Ministry of Health was held on Saturday at the Ministry of Health. This year's slogan is to protect people's health by banning tobacco advertising.

According to Jandaghi, each day of this week has special programs planned with the aim of increasing the society's awareness about the dangers of smoking.

Referring to the measures proposed by the World Health Organization, he said: "Educating people about the dangers of smoking and raising awareness about the environmental effects of smoking are among these measures."

He said: "Currently, one billion and 300 million people in the world are using tobacco."

Jandaghi pointed out that smoking is the most important cause of death from non-communicable diseases and said: "The prevalence of smoking among young people is worrying."

38% of men and 4% of women in Iran smoke and 60,000 people die every year.

In the end, he said that although the trend of smoking has slowed down in general, this trend is increasing among young people and women, which requires planning and solutions.
