In a significant escalation in eastern Lebanon, a drone strike by Israel has resulted in the death of Mohammed Hamid Jabara, the leader of the Lebanese-based Islamic Group and a commander of the Palestinian group Hamas. The attack occurred on Thursday when an Israeli drone targeted his vehicle in the town of Ghazz, located in the Western Bekaa region.

Iran Press/West Asia: Lebanese media reported that Jabara, a native of Qaraoun in the Bekaa Valley, was assassinated in this targeted strike. Both Al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, the organization led by Jabara, and its military branch, the Fajr Forces, have labeled the attack as a "treacherous Zionist raid."

In response, the Islamic Group in Lebanon issued a statement stating that local resistance factions will continue to stand united and resilient against what they describe as Israeli aggression. Bassam Hamoud, Vice President of the Islamic Group's political bureau, emphasized the group's dedication to resisting Israeli actions and supporting the Palestinian cause.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of hostilities involving Israeli forces. The situation has been particularly tense since a previous Israeli airstrike killed another senior commander, Mohamed Naim Nasser, in southern Lebanon earlier this month. This series of events has intensified the exchange of attacks, with Hezbollah stepping up its responses, including the deployment of an unprecedented number of drones and rockets into the Israeli-occupied territories following the assassination of Sami Taleb Abdullah, another senior figure, in June.

Hezbollah has been a key player in the resistance against Israeli forces, having successfully repelled Israeli offensives in Lebanon during the conflicts in 2000 and 2006. The resistance group says a comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is essential for restoring peace along the Lebanese border.
