Iran Press/ Iran News: Speaking on Monday, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Ministry of Interior with political activists on the eve of the elections held in the presence of the Minister of Interior, Jamal Orf said: “To prevent congestion in the constituencies, the voting time will be started at 7 am local time on June 18 and if necessary, time will be extended until 2 am the next day in crowded constituencies, and this is done only at the discretion of the Minister of the Interior.”
“In southern provinces such as Khuzestan, Bushehr, and Hormozgan, people would go to the constituencies after the weather cools down, usually after 6 pm, so the extension of the night voting time was used, and this is not going to be implemented throughout the country,” he told the reporters.
Orf also said that 10,000 ballot boxes would be added to crowded constituencies. Referring to the meeting with political activists, he said: “People from all political factions in the country were present at this meeting, and the main focus of the discussions was the ways to increase participation in the elections.”
Iran’s 13th presidential election will be held on June 18.
The Constitutional Council will have until May 25 to examine the registration documents submitted by the hopefuls. It will then release a final list of presidential candidates on May 26-27.
