Tehran(IP)- Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy said that during the visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Uzbekistan, Iran's membership in the Shanghai Treaty would be finalized.

Iran PressIran news: The Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is scheduled to be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 15-16.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an international intergovernmental organization that was established in June 2001 in Shanghai, China, by Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, and India and Pakistan also joined this organization in June 2017.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is going through the steps and processes of permanent membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and Iran's permanent membership is supposed to be signed by the heads of this organization at the Samarkand meeting.

Mongolia, Afghanistan, and Belarus are observer members of The Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

On September 17, 2021, The leaders of the eight-member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization announced their agreement with the change of the membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran from an observer member to a full member and signed the relevant documents.

According to Iran Press news Agency, "Mahdi Safari," Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, referring to the visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Uzbekistan tomorrow (Wednesday) and his attendance at the 22nd summit of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand, added: "The formality of Iran's membership in the Shanghai Pact will be determined in this trip because it has 400 to 500 contracts, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has prepared and delivered during this period."

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy stated that the two main factors of transit from north to south and energy in Shanghai are of high priority for Iran and said: "The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also has bilateral meetings during his trip to Uzbekistan."
