Iran Press/ Asia: The spokesperson for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sherzod Asadov, announced on his Telegram channel that the heads of 15 countries would participate in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on September 15-16 in Samarkand.
The presence of Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in this meeting has been endorsed.
Samarkand will host Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on Thursday and Friday this week. This event will be the first face-to-face meeting of the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization since 2019 and the end of Uzbekistan's presidency in this organization.
On Friday (September 17th) in 2021, The leaders of the eight-member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization announced their agreement with the change of the membership of the Islamic Republic of Iran from an observer member to a full member and signed the relevant documents.

At the same time, Asadov stated that during the presidency of Uzbekistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the main emphasis was on strengthening economic and trade relations, promoting industrial cooperation, as well as expanding communication and transportation. Uzbekistan also promoted the digital transformation and a green economy and strengthened the SCO's international authority.
He said:" In addition to Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Sadir Japarov will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. The President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Emomali Rahmon, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan will be present as the main members.
Asadov also stated: "Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, Ayatollah Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, the President of Mongolia, as the heads of the observer countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, will also participate in this summit as observer members.
He reminded: "President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan will also attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit."
In the meeting of September 2021, the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization decided to start the process of accepting Iran as a full member of the organization.
