Iran Press/ Iran News: Passenger flights between Turkey and Iran have been suspended as fears grew amid the coronavirus pandemic. With the efforts of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Turkey in June, the country announced that the air border between the two countries reopens on August 1st.
However, Turkish Airlines announced an earlier date, declaring in a statement that Turkish flights to Tehran will resume on July 16, 2020, and following the announcement, ticket sales on the Tehran-Istanbul route began, but no flights were operated and no domestic airlines were able to continue their scheduled flights to Istanbul.
ICAO Spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh said on Sunday: "The Turkish Airlines flight license has been issued, but it is not yet clear when the airline will start flights to Iran."
He stated: "Since the Turkish Airlines has not announced a report on the resumption of its flights to Iran, ICAO cannot provide an accurate and reliable report on the start of Turkish flights."
There is no clear outlook for the return of foreign airlines to the country and the resumption of flights that have been suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak. That is because the coronavirus pandemic is witnessed in many countries.
Since March 2020, the flights from Imam Khomeini Airport has been limited to a few specific destinations.
The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted air travel between countries, including Iran.
