Yemeni Ambassador slams UN position

Middle East (IP) - Yemeni Ambassador to Iran slammed the United Nation's position toward the Saudi-led coalition's attack on Yemen, saying the UN Special Envoy to the war-torn country, has never been a neutral mediator.

Iran Press/Iran News: In an interview with Al-Masirah TV broadcasted on Sunday, Yemeni Ambassador to Iran Ibrahim al-Dailami said that the positions of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen 'Martin Griffiths' have prolonged the Saudi coalition's attack on Yemen.

Al-Dailami said the United Nations was talking about a comprehensive political process but then breaking it down, adding that interim solutions would not solve the Yemeni crisis.

The Yemeni Ambassador stressed that the United Nations is not a righteous mediator for the talks, and said that the UN's handling of the political and humanitarian talks in Yemen had failed.

Al-Dailami also referred to Iran's plan to resolve the Yemeni crisis, saying the aggressors accuse Iran of interfering in Yemen's affairs while Tehran has made several proposals for a ceasefire and Yemeni-Yemeni talks without foreign intervention.

Iran's plan to resolve the crisis in Yemen, which was raised in the outset of the Saudi-led coalition's attack on Yemen, includes a ceasefire, lifting the siege, providing humanitarian aid, resuming Yemeni-Yemeni talks and forming an inclusive government.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched the devastating war on Yemen in March 2015 in order to bring the country’s former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crush the Ansarullah movement.

Since then, over 100,000 people have been killed, according to the US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED).
