Iran, Azerbaijan discuss ways to expand economic relations

Tehran (IP) - The Iranian Finance and Economic Affairs Minister and the Republic of Azerbaijan Deputy Prime Minister discussed economic relations due to conditions created by the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Farhad Dejpasand, expressed his hope in a telephone conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev, that Tehran and Baku could work together to expand bilateral economic relations.

Dejpsand said: "I hope that with the bilateral cooperation we will be able to expand and strengthen mutual economic relations between the two countries."

Referring to the latest situation related to joint projects between Iran and the Azerbaijan Republic on the north-south corridor, as well as the construction of a joint industrial town near the border in the Bileh Savar region, Dejpasand addressed to the problems that Iranian transit fleets at the Republic of Azerbaijan border are facing and demanded that these issues will be solved by Shahin Mustafayev and Azerbaijani Government's relevant officials.

The Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance also invited the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan to visit Iran to participate in the 14th Joint Economic Commission of the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev appreciated the attention of Iranian officials to expand bilateral cooperation.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan responded to the issues raised byDejpasand on the joint projects, saying that he will follow all the cases separately from their relevant officials and will try to finalize these projects as soon as possible with close cooperation and participation.

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Republic, Shahin Mustafayev on Feb 22 said that the Islamic Republic of Iran ranks the 8th exporter of goods to the Azerbaijan Republic valuing over $450 million.

He said that the amount of exchanges between the country and Iran has had an 11-percent increase in 2019, reaching $500 million.

Due to the good relations between the two countries, as well as the geographical location of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the country is the gateway to Iranian goods to the regional countries, especially Russia.

With over 750 kilometers of the joint border and 4 official border ports and, more importantly, numerous cultural and spiritual commonalities with Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan is considered a good ground for economic development for the two countries.
