Rouhani, Erdogan agree to reopen borders
Tehran (IP) - In a telephone conversation on Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Recep Tayyip Erdogan Turkish President called for an immediate reopening of land and air borders between two countries.
Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian and Turkish President on Sunday called for the resumption of the trade exchanges and freight services between two countries observing all health protocols to contain the spread of the coronavirus after a halt due to the closing borders in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Formation of the Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, cooperation and sharing experiences and knowledge in the fight against coronavirus and containment of COVID-19 also was at the topic of the discussion of the two neighboring countries' Presidents.
President Rouhani said that the two countries have already set records for economic cooperation, adding that it is necessary for the present condition that the borders get open again to resume trade.
“In the current situation, reopening of the land and air borders and the resumption of the trade and commodity exchanges with observing health protocols is a priority for both countries,” Hassan Rouhani underlined.
For his part, Erdogan emphasized that mutual cooperation and sharing experiences in the battle with COVID-19 will be highly effective.
Erdogan pointed out that the cooperation between the two countries about the coronavirus outbreak can be very useful.
The Turkish president said he will issue the necessary orders to reopen the border crossings and restart the trade exchanges with Iran.
The two presidents also congratulated each other on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.205
