Iran Foreign Ministry Special Envoy Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Special Envoy Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian discussed the current developments in Afghanistan with the officials of Qatar-based Taliban Political Bureau.

Iran Press/Iran News: In a phone call on Wednesday, the two sides consulted on the future process of inter-Afghan negotiations as well as comprehensive efforts to prevent the widespread outbreak of coronavirus.

Currently, one of the major concerns of the international community especially Afghanistan’s neighbors is the outbreak of coronavirus in the country, particularly the regions controlled by the Taliban.

The coincidence of coronavirus outbreak and financial problems along with a lack of main food resources in Afghanistan can follow new and serious consequences for the country.

Earlier in the previous weeks, Taherian had trips to Kabul, visiting the Afghan leaders including Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and Abdollah Abdollah, announcing Iran’s readiness to help Afghanistan’s political problems.

On April 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has held separate telephone conversations with Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah to discuss the latest developments in Afghanistan.

Political tensions between Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah began when the Afghan election committee declared Ashraf Ghani the winner of the recent election, but Abdullah Abdullah called himself president and the two Afghan officials, who both claim they won the presidential election, held their inauguration ceremonies at two palaces in Kabul.
