Tehran (IP) - Deputy of Health Ministry, Iraj Harirchi has stated that although the Coronavirus affects different groups, the severity of the disease is higher in poor people.

Iran PressIran news: In a live video conference interview and in response to IP, Deputy of Health Ministry, Iraj Harirchi on how Smart Social Distancing can guarantee public health while they are commencing their social and economic activities said: "Smart Social Distancing plan is based on the economic and the disease conditions. Iran simultaneously combats the US sanctions and the "COVID-19" and its condition is quite different from other countries."

"As the Financial Times reported yesterday, and the University of Chicago surveyed 50 economists around the world, in the last 90 years the only subject shared among the economists, both liberal and institutionalist, and classical liberal democrats was that all agree that in the reopening of businesses, all cautionary measures must be observed even in economics itself."

"They all agreed that commencing economic activities while combating the virus can worsen the condition and make it harder to fight. Iran's criteria to start the economic and social activities have been based on people with low-incomes and those who are active in private sectors," the official stated.

Harirchi further noted that one of the features of the Smart Social Distancing plan is a smart evaluation. We hope that with the smart system and the government, we face less loss and the best outcome.

He also stated that COVID-19 has impacted all walks of life, in particular, the poor, and low-income ones for example in the United States, the number of deaths among blacks is twice the whites. 207
