Iran Press/Iran news: The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Presidential Office Mahmoud Vaezi on Wednesday evening at the ceremony of the 90th National Day of Turkey congratulated the Turkish government on behalf of the Iranian government and nation on the occasion of Turkey's National Day, noting that Turkey is Iran's good friend and neighbor.
The official went on to say that Iran and Turkey are two countries that have been living together peacefully for the past 400 years, while sharing a border of about 500 kilometers.
The Chief of Staff of the Presidential office highlighted that the two countries, had much in common in cultural and historical terms, saying: "You almost can't find sections where the two countries have no common ties and have not worked together. These partnerships are the best capital for both governments and the people of both countries to have excellent relationships.”
Vaezi emphasized that Iran's policy is close cooperation and deep relations with all its neighbors, adding: "Among our neighbors, we have close and strategic relations with Turkey. The two Presidents have close and fraternal relations and have met 12 times during the last 6 years."
He went on to say that both countries oppose US and Western use of sanctions, noting: "We oppose unilateralism and try to solve the problems through diplomacy."
Vaezi also stressed the Astana process and its role in the region and expressed that the successful international model we have presented is the Astana process between Iran, Russia, and Turkey, in which the three countries were able to manage the Syrian crisis.
"Given the regional situation and the presence of terrorists, what matters for us is the security of Turkey, Iran and the security of the borders, and this is one of the issues of the two countries' talks. We are glad today that Turkey's problem with Syria is resolved," the official added.
Turkey attaches great importance to relations with Tehran
Turkish ambassador to Tehran Derya Ors, for his part, said that Ankara attaches great importance to relations with Tehran because of its great historical ties with Iran.
"We attach great importance to relations with Tehran because of our historical ties and our very close ties with Iran and he is pleased to convey our president’s warmest greetings to the Iranian government and nation," the Turkish diplomat noted.
Regarding the Turkish operation in northern Syria, Ors said that the Turkish government launched the 'Spring of Peace' operation in northern Syria to crack down on terrorism that strikes our country for 40 years. The operation is limited and targeted and will continue until the desired result is achieved.
"Our main goal is to fight terrorism, which has killed thousands of our soldiers and civilians, as well as inflicted billions of dollars in damages and financial costs, to bring peace and stability to the region and maintain the territorial integrity of Syria and the outbreak of the terrorist government in the region," he said.
Turkey's National Day Ceremony on Wednesday was held at the country's embassy in Tehran with Iranian officials and foreign diplomats residing in Iran in attendance, including Vaezi, the Head of the Persian Academy of Sciences Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, the Secretary of the Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Commission Bahman Hosseinpour, as well as a number of state and military officials.
The ceremony was also attended by diplomats, military and business affiliates of foreign countries residing in Iran, including Russian ambassador to Tehran Levan Jagarian and ambassadors of South Korea, Ecuador, and Austria, as well as Iranian businessmen.
