The head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran has stressed that medical tourism is an important and significant contributor to the economy.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an interview with Iran Press on Tuesday, at Health Ministry headquarters in Tehran, the head of the Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization, Aliasghar Mounesan, said tourism is one of the main pillars of economy, and in particular medical tourism is of increasing importance.

The Head of Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization added: "Our country has high levels of expertise in providing professional medical services, we have very modern and advanced medical equipment in our hospitals, and we have doctors and specialists who are highly skilled and among the best in the world. Thus the Islamic Republic can develop its medical tourism industry, with considerable benefit for the economy. Medical tourism is a major foreign currency earner and an important factor for the economy."

Aliasghar Mounesan continued by saying: "As for any tourist based on global standards we benefit 2400 dollars which in comparison with the oil price, it is clear how beneficial and lucrative the tourism industry is."

Mounesah said medical tourism can be counted as a main pillar of the country's economy.

He said, last year according to a report by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), tourism brought in 11.8 billion dollars into Iran's economy, benefiting our GDP.   101/211
