Ali Fayyad, a Hezbollah member of parliament, expressed deep concern that the agreement instead grants Israel "the freedom to target what it deems a potential threat" while stripping Lebanon of the same right to self-defense.
"We declare clearly that we will not submit to Israel's conditions," Fayyad said.
The lawmaker accused Israel of intending to continue its hostile actions, thereby stripping the current ceasefire of any real meaning. He warned that the United States and Israel are attempting to "reproduce the formula that previously exhausted Lebanon" through continued killing and destruction.
Fayyad described the US-brokered understanding as "unacceptable and unbearable," urging Lebanese officials to respond to the public and address the dangerous challenges posed by the agreement.
"The understanding is very dangerous because it includes no requirement for Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territory, grants it the right to self-defense while denying that right to Lebanon, and gives it the freedom to target whatever it sees as a potential threat," he stressed.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Fayyad also praised the resilience of Lebanese civilians returning to their villages and towns.
"The return of people to their villages and homes is a firm response to the Israeli enemy," he said. "They remain committed to their land and their resistance."
