According to the statement, U.S. forces opened fire on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Sea of Oman, disabled its navigation system, and boarded the ship by deploying armed terrorist operatives onto its deck.
The incident comes amid a U.S. naval blockade of Iran and just days after a ceasefire was reportedly agreed upon during U.S.-Iran talks in Islamabad. Iranian officials accuse Washington of violating the truce by resuming hostile actions.
"The armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon respond to this armed piracy by the U.S. military and will retaliate," the spokesman warned.
