The Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Mohammad Shariatmadari , speaking at the 12th meeting of Iran-Uzbekistan joint economic commission, stressed that Iran and Uzbekistan have always enjoyed good relations, and close diplomatic ties,
He added: Uzbekistan's policy vis-a-vis its neighbours and other Central Asian countries has been similar to that of Iran, and this can bring the two countries closer together".
Noting that Iran has the capability to design, engineer and manufacture high-quality industrial equipment, as well as manufacturing plants and equipment for the petrochemical industry, he said: "Neighboring countries can benefit from this capability".
In further remarks, Shariatmadari said: "Iran is producing 96 percent of its needed medicine, and has set up pharmaceutical manufacturing plants in other countries, as well as exporting its products to them". He added: "A number of Iranian cars are also being manufactured in some neighboring countries".
Shariatmadari also called for tourism and banking cooperation between Iran and Uzbekisan. He said Iran is ready to cooperate with Uzbekistan on agricultural machinery, electricity transmission, and in construction and energy sectors, including building of wind, solar and hydroelectric power plants.
