Iran Press/America: Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Gerlich Radman on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) on Tuesday night.
Referring to the potential for bilateral cooperation, the two sides stressed the need to activate mechanisms between them, such as the Joint Economic Commission.
Pointing to the importance of the Balkan region, especially Croatia, in the foreign policy of Iran's 13th administration, Amir- Abdollahian said: "The two countries have high capacities to develop cooperation in the political, cultural and political spheres."
Referring to the two countries' non-establishment of the Joint Economic Commission for 16 years, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated that Tehran was ready to revive the commission in Tehran as soon as possible.
The Croatian Foreign Minister also said: "Croatia seeks to strengthen relations with Iran. The Joint Economic Commission is one of the mechanisms that help to expand relations."
The Croatian Foreign Minister further referred to the sanctions as an obstacle to developing relations and said: "The capacities of the two countries in the economic field are high, but the sanctions have damaged the trade relations between the two countries."
He also stressed the importance of Iran's role in contributing to the peace and stability of Afghanistan and added: "The efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran are especially important in the issue of immigrants."
