Spokesman for Iran FM Sayyed Abbas Mousavi

A spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry said the country was following the developments in Iraq closely and with sensitivity.

Iran Press/Iran News: Sayyed Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports the legitimate demands of the Iraqi people, which have been clearly emphasized in the statements of Iraqi Supreme Religious Authority (Marja), as well as Iraq's Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.

Mousavi expressed his deep regret over the recent events in Iraq that have resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens and the destruction of public property, saying: "We are confident that the Iraqi government and nation and the Religious Authority can overcome the problems and work with integrity."

He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a supporter of the Iraqi government and nation since the formation of the new Iraq, and has made available its capabilities to the neighbor in critical junctures.
