Iran Press/ Asia: According to Iran Press from Kuala Lumpur, Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia, while officially joining the BRICS group, is cooperating with member countries of this international group through numerous agreements in the fields of trade, investment, energy, and artificial intelligence.
In relation to the subsequent discussions, engagements, and the attendance of the Foreign Minister at the recent BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, the Indonesian President remarked, "We have now formally become a member of the BRICS economic group as a significant partner and permanent member."
Prabowo Subianto emphasized, "As the largest economy in Southeast Asia, we can play our role in the new global economic arena."
A nation strategically positioned along international water routes with diverse commercial ports, notably Batam Port, and recognized as the world's leading nickel producer, holds a significant position in the raw materials market for electric vehicle batteries. This country can offer extensive support to its allies within the BRICS group.
The Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson further expressed: "Indonesia, as a developing nation and a key partner of BRICS, is dedicated to collaborating with emerging economies like China and India to promote the interests of Global South countries."
Indonesia, along with other BRICS members, is set to develop payment instruments to facilitate trade among member countries by strengthening local currencies and isolating the US dollar, while supporting multilateralism in new global governance.
This issue has further angered the United States, with President-elect Trump threatening to impose 100 percent tariffs on goods from BRICS members. It seems that these threats are not being taken seriously by BRICS members, as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam are also set to join the large trading group after their official inclusion
