Iran Press/ Asia: Muslims worldwide hold mourning ceremonies on the 28th of Safar each year to mark the demise anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The 28th day of the month of Safar (the second month in the lunar Hijri calendar) marks the passing away of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as well as the martyrdom of Imam Hassan (AS), the second Shia Imam.
Indian Shi'a Muslims participated in the mourning procession of the last week of the month of Safar after gathering in the Kashmiri Jama Masjid of New Delhi on Friday evening and started various chest-beating ceremonies.
Young Indian Shi'a Muslims also attended the mourning ceremony at the end of the month of Safar and were dressed in black.
Indian Shi'a Muslims mourn from the 1st of Muharram to the 8th of Rabi-ul-Awl, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hasan Askari (AS).
