Global coronavirus death toll tops 158,000

COVID-19 has infected more than 2.25 million people and killed at least 158,000 worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Iran PressAmerica:  The human cost of the coronavirus outbreak has continued to mount, with more than 2.25m cases confirmed globally and more than 158 thousand people known to have died from the disease.

The daily death tolls in more than 10 countries are in the hundreds or even thousands, and in all but a few cases, those numbers are still rising.

The US death toll reaches over 39.000, the first among the world countries in this regard, Italy with more than 23 thousand stands second, Spain with 20.639 is the third in the list.

This is while after five consecutive days of the coronavirus death reduction, on April 18, Iran records the lowest number of deaths with 73 people after days with 3 digit casualties.

Iran in a recent act against coronavirus implemented 'Smart Social Distancing' to contain the virus while reopening the economy.

Iran's Ministry of Health Spokesman announced that so far more than 55,987 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease and reported a decrease in daily death toll for the 6th consecutive days with 73 deaths.
