Iran Press/Europe: Borrell posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday night, expressing grave concern over the toll on journalists covering Middle East conflicts, highlighting the loss of more than 130 journalists in Gaza over the past year. He also noted that three journalists were killed in Friday’s Israeli airstrike on Lebanon, calling the operation "outrageous."
Borrell emphasized that press freedom and access must be protected, and journalists must always be safeguarded.
On Friday, Israeli forces reportedly launched a direct strike on a hotel in the town of Hasbaya in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, where journalists were residing. The attack resulted in the death and injury of numerous journalists, photographers, and media crew. The Lebanese Health Minister confirmed that, to date, 11 journalists have been killed and 8 others injured since the onset of Israeli attacks on Lebanon.
This latest escalation in southern Lebanon comes on the heels of the near-complete devastation of Gaza and has drawn global condemnation. Israel's ongoing operations have continued despite international outcry, Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate cessation, and International Court of Justice directives to halt further humanitarian violations and prevent potential genocide in Gaza and Lebanon.
