The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces announced that talks were underway to expel US troops from Iraqi territory in June.

Iran PressMiddle East: Major General Abdul Karim Khalaf, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, said on Sunday that the Iraqi government is serious about implementing a parliamentary resolution calling for the full withdrawal of US troops from the country.

"The United States has withdrawn a number of its troops so far," Khalaf said. "During the talks, which will take place next June, the two countries will formulate a timetable for the withdrawal of the remaining US troops from Iraq and they will check in full."

One of the top priorities for the new Iraqi prime minister, Mustafa al-Kazemi, is to pursue the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, which has become a public demand.

Iraqi lawmakers unanimously approved a bill on January 5, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country following the assassination of Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of Iraq's Hashd al-Sha’abi, and their companions in a US airstrike authorized by President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport two days earlier.
