Iraqi President Barham Salih appointed on Saturday Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi as a new prime minister, after more than two months of a political deadlock.

Iran Press/Middle East: Iraqi President Barham Salih has chosen Allawi from the five-man list he was offered two weeks ago to elect a new prime minister.

According to state television, Allawi would run the country until early elections can be held. He must form a new government within a month.

Allawi said via videotape posted on Facebook that President Barham Salih had assigned him an hour ago to form a new government.

The appointment, after much bickering between political groups in the past two weeks, was finally agreed upon on Friday. 101
