Iran Press/Middle East: The operation's mission is to cleanse patches under terrorists' control, arrest wanted ISIS elements and restore stability and security in the liberated areas, it said in a statement.
The current operation which is underway in Nineveh, Salahuddin, Diyala and Kirkuk provinces is the Iraqi Army's most extensive anti-terrorism action taken following the defeat of ISIS in 2017.
Police Commander Heydar Yousef said 20 shelters have been destroyed and heavy losses have been inflicted on the terrorists during the eighth round of the Army's anti-terrorism operation.
The operation came one day after a deadly US attack on bases of the Iraqi popular forces in which 30 of its members also known as Hashd al-Sha'abi were martyred and 50 more wounded.
The US strikes were largely condemned by Iraqi authorities and groups as the violation of the country's sovereignty.
The bodies of PMF forces will be buried on Tuesday after funeral processions to be held in the capital Baghdad.
