US to exploit Lebanon protests: Top Hezbollah official

The Deputy Chief of Hezbollah's Executive Council, Sheikh Ali Daamoush, has said the US wanted to use the protests in Lebanon in order to weaken the Lebanese Resistance movement and to exclude it from Lebanese politics altogether.

Iran PressMiddle East: The Deputy Chief of Hezbollah's Executive Council, Sheikh Ali Daamoush stressed that the US wanted to exploit the protests in order to weaken Hezbollah, adding that Washington’s plot goes against Lebanon's national interests and serves the interests of the Israel.

Sheikh Daamoush confirmed that the rejection of US plan by President Michel Aoun, Hezbollah movement and Resistance supporters has frustrated Washington, but warned the Trump administration will not stop attempting to implement its plots and schemes in Lebanon.

Sheikh Daamoush also called for a new government which knows how to deal with the current economic crisis in Lebanon, adding that the nation can no longer accept the status quo and procrastination in this regard.

The Lebanese people have been holding demonstrations since 17 October, protesting against poor economic conditions, rising cost of living, and high unemployment. The peaceful protests have resulted in the resignation of Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri.

Saad al-Hariri is currently serving as an interim head of government until someone is found to replace him.
