Two rockets hit around Baghdad airport

Two rockets have hit Baghdad International Airport in Iraq which is home to Iraqi military and US military forces.

Iran PressMiddle East: The airport is located next to the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center (BDSC), used by diplomats, intelligence operatives as well as the US-led anti-terrorist coalition forces in Iraq.

According to a report by RT, the target of the reported rocket shelling is still unclear at the moment, as no party has claimed responsibility so far. No casualties have been reported. However, there have been unconfirmed reports of injuries among the staff of the Iraqi counter-terrorism task force, located at the airport.

Five people have reportedly been injured, two seriously, and are being treated by foreign medics that happened to be stationed nearby.

Several flights that were supposed to pass over the airport have reportedly been diverted to the area north-east of the Iraqi capital due to the rocket attack.

The incident comes as some demonstrations in Iraq which was in protest at corruption and the poor state of the economy, have turned violent with the Iraqi government blaming Iraq's enemies for supporting and funding rioters and vandals in the country.

The new round of popular peaceful demonstrations in Iraq began on 25 October, in various cities, including Baghdad, Karbala, Basra, Najaf, and other cities.

The peaceful protests are aimed at forcing the government to meet protester demands. 207/211
