Iran Press/Iran News: According to the center, every year, as Nowruz Eve arrives, the head of the Judiciary sends a letter to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution calling for pardoning or commuting of the punishment of some of the convicts.
The Spokesman for the Judiciary Gholam-Hossein Esmaeili said at his news conference on Tuesday that about 85,000 prisoners have taken advantage of the furlough.
He said the plan involved all of the provinces and all charges in accordance with the Judiciary’s circular.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution agreed with the terms of pardoning or commuting the punishment of the convicts.
In response to a letter from the Chief of the Judiciary to the Leader to pardon or commute the punishment of the eligible convicts on the occasion of Rajab (the seventh month of the Islamic calendar), Nowruz, and Eid al-Maba'th (the anniversary of the ordainment of the last prophet, Muhammad al-Mustafa), and the necessity to reduce the population of prisoners, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei agreed the request.
