Rouhani said, "I am also grateful to the police and law enforcement forces for managing the Corona crisis because they have an active presence everywhere and in all streets."

He added, "We can certainly overcome the Corona crisis with national and public efforts."

Coronavirus suspects will be prevented from leaving cities

At the same meeting, Hassan Rouhani said: "I urge people not to leave their homes as far as possible and follow all health guidelines and protocols."

The President added: "According to what the Ministry of Health and Interior ministry have coordinated, people will be checked with fever and anthropomorphic devices at the entrances of cities starting from tomorrow and if a case is detected to have the virus’ symptoms, he or she must be returned home and quarantined, and in some cases even taken to medical centers."

"I urge people to cooperate with all enforcement agencies when they are told at the cities’ exit points that it is not possible to continue their journey, because it may be detrimental to them and the public," he noted.

"All that is planned in the National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus is to pass the conditions that the virus has created for us and to return to a healthy society," Rouhani said.

The new virus, a respiratory disease known as COVID-19, emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year. It has killed nearly 5,800 people globally, and infected over 153,000 others, according to the World Health Organization.
