Iran Press/ commentary: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press News Agency on Wednesday, March 11, about the US claims of open transport routes for medical equipment and humanitarian aid to Iran to combat the outbreak of coronavirus, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said: “It has been 3 weeks that we are engaged in talks with one of these countries where we have financial resources. However, Americans do not permit financial resources to enter the Swiss Channel to allow medical supplies to reach Iran.”
Concurrent with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Iran, the US government claimed that routes to dispatch medicines and medical equipment from the Swiss Channel to Iran were open, but that was not the case.
The United States, in breach of its international obligations following its withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), has reimposed sanctions against the Iranian nation and has also targeted the country’s food, drug, and medical supplies in the context of its 'maximum pressure' policy.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed his country had offered Iran its assistance in the fight against the coronavirus, while the main objective of the US ‘maximum pressure’ policy is the Iranian nation, as the Iranians struggle with the coronavirus outbreak.
The US Secretary of State's request for putting a condition on international aid to Iran for the release of prisoners he described as bi-national, reflects American propaganda and deceitful approach that even the coronavirus is being considered as an opportunity for it and the continuing of the maximum pressure on the Iranian nation.
On the other hand, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani has recently responded to US claims, saying the claim can only be verified through the country's implementation of its legal obligations under the JCPOA.
US government policy, especially targeting the right to life and lives of the Iranian people is a crime against humanity, and in other words, drug sanctions are not only human rights violations, but they are also human killers.
According to Iran’s head of High Council for Human Rights Ali Bagheri-Kani, weaponizing food and medicine against civilians has no other designation but a crime against humanity.
What is crystal-clear to all the world till now is that Iran is at the forefront of the fight against the borderless spread of coronavirus. With all the obstacles in medical and pharmaceutical equipment, Iran is clearly and purposefully combating the coronavirus and is involved with the treatment of the affected patients.
Now, all of Iran's medical capabilities in various sectors, including those of the armed forces, are in the service of fighting the coronavirus and serving the people.
In addition, Iranian knowledge-based companies are also working on the production of a drug against coronavirus.
Coinciding with field-medical and research-medical efforts, Iran is moving forward in the fight against the virus despite cruel and illegal US sanctions.
