Tehran (IP) - Domestic-made satellite 'Zafar', designed and constructed by the University of Science and Technology in Tehran, is ready to be placed in the earth's orbit.

Iran Press/Iran news: Ordered by the Iranian Space Agency, the 'Zafar' national satellite was designed and constructed by the University of Science and Technology in Tehran. It is due to be delivered to Iran's Communications and IT Ministry on Sunday 19 January, and is said to be ready for launch into space.

'Zafar' satellite has been on the agenda of the University of Science and Technology after 'Navid' satellite, as a second space project.

Comparison of these two satellites reveal that Zafar's camera technology is much more advanced thatn Navid, capable of taking higher resolution pictures, with double the accuracy of control and increasing the video transmission rate by more than 15 times.

The Zafar satellite is equipped with colour cameras and can be used for surveying oil reserves, mines, the environment, investigation of saline and alkaline soils, plant diseases and pests, and natural disasters.

The satellite will orbit the earth at an altitude of 530 kilometers.
