Sorena Sattari: Iran as "major biotech power" will decrease its medicinal imports
Tehran(IP)- Iran's vice president for science and technology, Sorena Sattari has emphasized that as a regional power in biotechnology, Iran will decrease its medicinal imports and this trend is currently underway.
Iran Press/ Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday, Sorena Sattari said Iran is leading the field in biotechnology, and Turkey is one of Iran's main rivals which so far has not produced any medicines of its own using biotechnology.
Speaking on the sidelines of an unveiling ceremony for 'Alsava', a new drug produced by an Iranian pharmaceutical company, the vice president for science and technology, Sorena Sattari said: "Iran has produced more than 20-25 biotechnology medicines in the food, food-supplementary and medical equipment fields which is considered a significant number."
He added, biotechnology companies are employing graduate and postgraduate highly-talented employees aged in their 20s and 30s.
By highlighting the importance of healthcare and medical fields for Iran while resisting against sanctions right now, Sattari said Iran has invested heavily in science and technology, and in particular, biotechnology.
Sattari went on to say in just one or two years from now, medicinal drug imports will fall below 2-3 million dollars.
