Britain's ambassador has been summoned to the foreign ministry in Tehran following his unorthodox behaviour and arrest by Iranian police.

Iran PressIran news: The British ambassador to Tehran has been summoned to the foreign ministry and warned about his unorthodox behaviour.

Robert Macaire was told that his behaviour, and in particular attendance at an illegal protest rally, which in no way is related to his status as ambassador of the United Kingdom in Tehran, and goes against the 1961 Geneva Convention on Diplomatic Relations, requires the British government to provide an explanation about his activities and bahaviour to Tehran.

The British ambassador to Tehran was arrested by police on Saturday after taking part in an illegal protest rally in front of the Amir Kabir University of Technology in Tehran, and encouraging people to chant anti-government slogans.

He was released because of his diplomatic immunity and only after his identity was ascertained by police officers.
