Tehran-Tashkent flights resume

Direct flights between Tehran and Tashkent resumed on Monday after a four-year hiatus.

Iran Press/ Asia: The first flight, an Iranian Zagros Airlines plane that left Tehran for Uzbekistan landed at Tashkent's Islam Karimov international airport and was welcomed by the Iranian ambassador to Uzbekistan Hamid Nayyerabadi and a number of other Uzbek officials.

The airline is supposed to schedule flights from Tehran to Tashkent and vice versa, on a weekly basis.

Earlier, in 2015, the Islamic Republic of Iran Airlines (IR Air) used to fly to Taskent, but the service was discontinued for various reasons.

Re-launching direct flights between Tehran and Tashkent has been a major topic of discussion in recent years between Iranian and Uzbek officials.

The discussions have bore fruit, with resumption of direct fights thanks to the efforts of officials of both sides.
