Iranian envoy to Switzerland Mohammad Reza Haji Karim Jabbari

The Iranian ambassador to Switzerland said his country expects all UN member states to oppose unilateralism and avoid the US shameful and immoral restrictions.

Iran PressEurope: In a letter to 100 Swiss political, economic, cultural, media, and scientific figures, Mohammad Reza Haji Karim Jabbari said Iranian people at the same time suffer from Coronavirus outbreak and US economic terrorism, unilateralism, and inhuman sanctions.

Remarking that the US sanctions prevented Iran’s access to revenues to supply vital food and medicines, Haji Karim Jabbari asserted that the US and some of its allies shamelessly use corona to practice political pressure against Iran.

He considered the resumption of trade with Tehran as part of the UN Resolution No. 2231 commitments, expressing hope that Switzerland along with other world countries ignore the sanctions amid the corona crisis and contribute to the control of the virus in Iran and the world.

Despite the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus worldwide and the need to fight it all out, the United States insists on its sanctions within the framework of maximum pressure policy against Iran and repeatedly imposing new sanctions against Tehran.

Yesterday, Iranian Ambassador to Sweden Ahmad Masoumifar met with Sweden Foreign Minister Ann Linde and said that US illegal sanctions against Iran are serious obstacles to confront Coronavirus.

Also, the former vice president of the United States, Joe Biden on Thursday called on the Trump administration to ease economic sanctions against Iran amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The US Senator Bernie Sanders also in his tweet on 31 March said that US sanctions are obstructing medicine and aid from getting in, while the Coronavirus has caused suffering and death to Iranians.

In late December 2019, Chinese authorities notified WHO about an outbreak of previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, central China. On March 11, WHO officially characterized the situation with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as a pandemic.

Globally, more than 1,034,000 people have tested positive and more than 54,465 have died from COVID-19.
