Iran Press/ Asia: Hassan Rouhani made the remarks on Thursday morning in a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the sidelines of KL Summit 2019 in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, saying: "We have been -and are- alongside Qatar, and we condemn any pressure and predicament imposed on the country."
During the meeting, both sides stressed the development of relations between Tehran and Doha in all fields, the official website of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran reported.
Stressing that Iran and Qatar should take advantage of the closeness to develop economic and commercial relations, Rouhani said: "The two countries can have close relations in different fields."
The President also said that Tehran and Doha can address many of each other's needs in the current economic conditions, saying, "We can cooperate in the field of joint investments."
At the same meeting, the Emir of Qatar expressed happiness over meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and said: "Relations between the two countries are special and our relations and contact have to increase."
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also appreciated Iran's stances towards sanctions on Qatar, adding, "We appreciate Iran's position and we will not forget it."
"I believe that Iran and Qatar can overcome the hard conditions imposed on them," said the Qatari Emir.
On the sidelines of the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019, President Rouhani also had separate meetings with Malaysian King Sultan Abdullah, and Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad on Wednesday and praised the Malaysian Prime Minister's timely action to hold the Kuala Lumpur conference to address the most important issues of the world of Islam.
