Iran's Minister of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism and the Armenian Deputy Minister of Tourism, Science, Culture, and Sport welcomed the expansion of bilateral cultural ties.

Iran Press/ Asia: During a meeting with the Armenian Deputy Minister of Tourism, Science, Culture, and Sport Narin Kachatourian on the sideline of Beijing's Summit of Ancient Civilizations, Ali Asghar Mounesan said that Tehran-Yerevan friendly ties have set the stage for expansion of relations between the two countries.

Mounesan described historic churches as one of Iran's main attractions for Armenian tourists and said cultural commonalities, as well as good neighbourliness, could lead to further expansion of relations between Tehran and Yerevan in culture and tourism.

The Iranian Minister voiced his country's readiness to hold handicraft exhibitions in the Armenian capital city of Yerevan and invited his counterpart to visit the exhibition. The Armenian official welcomed the invitation.

The Armenian Deputy Minister, for her part, also called for holding joint carpet exhibitions with Iran, noting that it is a good opportunity for Iran to promote the history of carpet weaving because great civilizations like Iran can be a role model for other nations.

The third summit of tourism ministers of the Old Civilizations Assembly member states was held in China with Iran, India, Iraq, Egypt, Armenia, Italy, Bolivia, Peru, Greece, and China taking part in the ministerial meeting. The event was held in Beijing.
