More than 26,000 people with the coronavirus have now died in the United States, according to a New York Times database.

Iran Press/America: As of Wednesday, at least 613,886 people across every state, plus Washington, D.C., and four US territories, have tested positive for the virus, according to a New York Times database.

The increase in deaths comes as hospitals across the country seek scarce protective gear and police officers issue citations to residents who ignore orders to stay home.

With the outbreak expected to persist, Americans have been urged to wear face coverings in public, convention centers have been converted into makeshift medical centers and some large summer gatherings have already been canceled.

The outbreak in this country, which now has the highest number of known cases in the world, has exploded over the last six weeks. At the start of March, with extremely limited testing available, only 70 cases had been reported in the United States, most of them tied to overseas travel. In recent days, cases and deaths have grown rapidly.

The widespread outbreak of the coronavirus in the country has caused many problems, and states such as New York, which has a high number of patients, are facing a shortage of medical equipment in hospitals.

The US government, and President Donald Trump in particular, have been widely criticized for its irresponsibility over the spread of the coronavirus.

Public health experts have warned that the US death toll could spike to 200,000 over the summer if unprecedented stay-at-home orders that have closed businesses and kept most Americans indoors are lifted after 30 days.

Following the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the United States, for the first time in US history, all 50 states are in a state of emergency.

COVID-19 has infected more than 2,000,000 people around the world and killed at least 126,000 people, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
