Benjamin Netanyahu and Donald Trump

By backing Israeli annexation of Palestinian lands and denying Palestinians their rights, Donald Trump is only perpetuating the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Iran as a true supporter of Palestinians has redoubled its diplomatic efforts to counter the much-vaunted 'Deal of the Century' as Donald Trump unveiled his so-called Middle East peace plan in a White House launch last Tuesday.

Iran Press/America: Standing next to the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump announced details of the 181-page plan to cheers and applause. Palestinian leaders were absent from the launch, having preemptively rejected his proposal, citing flagrant bias and unilateral US moves in favour of the Israeli regime.

Immediately after the announcement, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, and speaker of parliament Ali Larijani emphasized the importance of unity between Islamic countries and the adoption of a common Islamic stance to oppose and counter the US-Zionist ‘deal of the century’.

In  a tweet on Tuesday, foreign ministry spokesman, Mousavi announced Iran's readiness to engage in dialogue and consultations with all Islamic countries, at any level, to present a united Islamic opposition to Donald Trump's so-called Middle East peace plan, warning that a massive conspiracy lies behind the ‘deal of the century’.

The speaker of the parliament Ali Larijani sent a letter to the speakers of parliaments of Islamic countries, asking them to cooperate in countering and opposing the ‘deal of the century’. He also urged his counterparts in various telephone conversations to actively oppose Donald Trump's plan.

Ali Larijani also emphasized that one way of finding a just solution to the Palestinian problem is to hold a referendum in the occupied Palestinian territories with all Palestinians taking part, whether Jew Christian or Muslim so that the fate of Palestine is determined by the Palestinian people.

Palestine and the city of al-Quds, the number one issue for the Islamic World

The issue of occupied Palestine is the number one issue facing the world of Islam. Despite some political differences Islamic countries need to united and cooperate with one another in order to effectively oppose the ‘deal of the century’. The US-Israeli scheme directly targets the first Qibla of Muslims -- the city of al-Quds.

The Judaisation of the city of al-Quds, with the city being named as the “undivided” capital of Israel, is very much part of the ‘deal of the century’.

The plan also recognises the vast majority of illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian territories as part of the Zionist regime. A Palestinian state would receive territory, mostly desert, near Gaza to compensate for the loss of about 30% of the West Bank.

The plan recognises the Jordan valley, which makes up about a third of the occupied West Bank, as part of the usurper Israeli regime. Clearly this is a US-Israeli conspiracy against Muslims, which goes against the United Nations charter and numerous UN security council resolutions passed over the years. Islamic governments and countries must unite and cooperate with one another in order to thwart this dangerous US-Israeli scheme.

Deal of the Century; Effectively a Trump-Netanyahu Deal

It is obvious that the ‘deal of the century’ is just a deal between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu -- a deal which does not recognise the indigenous peoples of Palestine, the true owners of the land, that is the Palestinians.

‘Deal of the century’ completely ignores the fundamental idea that Palestinians, like all peoples of the world, have an inalienable right to self-determination. The rights of Palestinians are totally overlooked.

Bloomberg news agency in an analysis on Wednesday wrote: "The Trump plan is not about advancing peace. It’s a deliberately timed ploy to interfere in the Israeli elections by distracting attention from Benjamin Netanyahu’s formal indictment for bribery and to divert attention from Donald Trump’s impeachment proceedings in the Congress."

The International community, particularly Islamic nations need to staunchly defend the rights of Palestinians, including the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their usurped homeland, and the right of Palestinians to have an independent state of their own with the city of al-Quds as its capital.
