Egyptian army forces attack Morsi hometown village

Hometown village of former Egyptian President, Mohammad Morsi, has been attacked by the Egyptian army after pro-Morsi demonstrations were held in the village.

Iran Press/ Africa: Egyptian army forces have attacked the village of Al Edwah which is the birthplace of former president of the country, Mohammad Morsi ,and arrested dozens of residents.

The village in the eastern province of the Nile Delta is now under the siege of the Egyptian army, Iran Press reported citing Aljazeera news agency.

The crackdown came after dozens of supporters of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi demonstrated on Tuesday in his home village.

Egypt's first democratically-elected president Mohammad Morsi was buried after a small private family ceremony early on Tuesday, a day after he suffered a fatal heart attack in a Cairo court of law.

Morsi was overthrown on July 3, 2013, in a military coup staged by current President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and placed under house arrest before being moved to prison. He was in office for just a year when he was ousted in the coup.

The crackdown on the former Egyptian ruler and his political party, the Muslim Brotherhood, sparked widespread outrage around the world as rights campaigners and governments criticised el-Sisi's administration for collectively imprisoning Muslim Brotherhood members.
