Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described recent phone conversations between Iranian and European top diplomats regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as positive and constructive.

Iran PressIran news: In a press conference in Tehran on Monday, responding to a question about the negotiations for the lifting of sanctions and signals Iran has received from the opposite parties, Kanaani stated that Iran views the negotiations as a diplomatic solution to realize its interests. He noted that the JCPOA was an example of the success of multilateralism in solving complex issues.

However, Kanaani expressed disappointment that E3 (France, Germany, and the United Kingdom) and the United States did not allow the realization and success of this multilateral diplomatic path to move things forward. He emphasized that the path to an agreement remains open and there is an opportunity to revive the JCPOA, provided that the opposite parties adhere to the terms of the agreement practically and demonstrate the will to implement their obligations within the JCPOA framework.

Kanaani evaluated the recent telephone conversation between Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and European Union foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell as positive. He expressed optimism about the talks, stating that there are good opportunities ahead for joint talks between Iran and the European Union.

Look to the East Diplomacy

In response to a question, Kanaani said that the development of relations with the East and the countries of the old Asian continent will continue to be at the top of the priorities of the Pezeshkian Administration and the diplomatic apparatus, and the implementation of past agreements and the preparation of new cooperation documents based on the existing needs in the process of bilateral relations will be taken seriously by the Pezeshkian Administration.
The spokesman added: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will pay special and serious attention to the relations with the countries of the East, Asia, China and Russia will be pursued with seriousness and determination, and the continuation of these cooperations will be based on the common will and desire of Iran and Iran's partners, and these will provide common interests."
He added: We are in a complex region and we consider regional cooperation to be the best way to resolve misunderstandings, and developing relations with the East and Asia does not mean ignoring the development of ties with other countries that want friendly relations with Iran. Along with the development of relations with the East and Asia, we will pay special attention to relations with distant countries.
Kanaani went on to say: We will have positive reactions to positive actions.

The Caucasus region

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said about the Zangezur Corridor: "Corridors are the focus of attention today more than ever."

Kanaani stated: "The basis of the published news and analysis about the Caucasus and the transit corridors and the alleged corridors following Putin's visit to Baku is Russian FM's interview and the remarks of the spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry. This matter and these comments have become the basis for various viewpoints and ideas, sometimes opposing the development of relations between Iran and some of our neighbors, and it is necessary to emphasize that everybody should refer to the exact text of these comments and pay attention to the analysis and interpretation of this issue.
