Iran Press/Iran news: Iran Meteorological Organization (IMO), affiliated to the Ministry of Roads & Urban Development, is planning to host the sixth round of Regional Conference on Climate Change in late 2019.
Iran Meteorological Organization (IMO) is set to hold the conference in November in cooperation with the Ministry of Roads & Urban Development, and with the participation of representatives of the World Meteorological Organization, UNESCO and other major international organizations and academic experts.
According to an Iran Press report, citing Mehr News Agency, the Ministry of Roads has submitted a request to the government for necessary permits and is currently awaiting Cabinet approval.
Climate change is one of the most important environmental changes in the contemporary world which requires serious attention from governments and nations. The sensitivity of climate change in the Middle East and in particular in Iran has increased over the past decades, with phenomena such as drought, low rainfall, and dust particles causing concern.
According to scientific studies, climate change affects important sectors of the economy and, consequently, social life. Tourism, agriculture and related industries, as well as healthcare, are among the most affected sectors of the economy where climate change has a real impact.
The International Conference to be held in November 2019 will focus mainly on global warming and reducing its damaging effect on the region. The Conference will also deal with monitoring and climate prediction, effects of climate change, and how to cope with climate change.
The Regional Conference on Climate Change is held every four years by the IMO. Holding the conference requires approval from the Iranian government. 103/211/203
